Review
I love love stories where one is a celebrity so reading the synopsis alone I was interested to watch this. Turns out, this is one of the best surprises this year! I really didn’t expect to love this as much as I did!

At the start, Whojoon was just ok for me. He seemed two-faced, super nice in public but a jerk in real life. I really could feel Geun Young’s anger at Whojoon. I instantly liked Geun Young and felt bad that she kept getting embarrassed and humiliated by Whojoon, his fans and the media. But i think it was also partly her fault and her rash actions that put her on that spot.

The show got 100x better when the couple started “living” together and getting to know each other. The more you hate the more you love right? I think Whojoon and Geun Young were perfect for each other. They’ve come a long way from being bitter enemies to lovers and it was worth the wait. I savored each and every scene they were in together. I loved how they can have a good laugh with each other and be comfortable talking about their past and issues. I especially loved how they discussed their relationship as adults. Whojoon is a big celebrity and kudos to Geun Young for understand that part of his life and not pressuring him to reveal their relationship or to choose her over his career. That Whojoon didn’t ghost her and told her he will fix his issues first and he will come back to her. That Geun Young waited for him and didn’t lose faith in him.

Geun Young’s parents were also funny especially the dad.

Just a little bit more on Whojoon. I am definitely nominating him as Kdrama boyfriend of the year! He was cool and smooth with his lines and subtle actions. It is so funny and charming that I also fell in love with him. I didn’t like Taejoon in Suspicious Partner but he was so cute here, I can’t resist him! Whojoon has a way of being loveable without sounding like an arrogant narcissist. And when he put down is public face, we see the real Whojoon who is a sweet and sincere guy.

The main reason I didn’t rate this higher is because I didn’t like JJ and Inhyung. The entire time I ignored JJ’s rants and punchy face because I know he will make up with Whojoon in the latter half. But I can’t stand Inhyung. She was lonely, I get that. But she decided to choose JJ over Whojoon. I don’t know if she cheated on him, or if she was still in love with Whojoon all this time, or did she really love JJ. But i felt like she always blamed others for her life. Like she is a damsel in distress that needs help from the boys. JJ is definitely terrible at stopping her career and I get her desperation, but having a secret phone with the no. of your ex boyfriend that your current boyfriend hates was totally wrong. I think Inhyung never showed that she loved JJ or that she chose JJ, that’s why JJ always felt insecure and jealous of Whojoon (plus the betrayal). The nonstop fight between JJ and Inhyung was also repetitive and tiring. I wanted Inhyung to die or go far away and leave the two guys alone. I also felt relieved when JJ lost his voice LOL.

The last episode felt rushed. Instead of the multiple flashbacks i wished they spent more time completing the little plotholes. Like what happened to Whojoon during the time he was away? Where did he go? (back to Alaska? with his mom?) How long was he gone? Also, I would have been happy with Whojoon publicly admitting his relationship with Geunyoung, coz the proposal was too fast. But still overall enjoyed their happy ending. “it’s not Yama (punk), it’s You are My All (YAMA) ๐Ÿ˜”

I also loved the OST. Unfortunately I missed the deadline to buy through the Makestar funding project. huhu. I hope they make more copies because I know 2 people willing to buy the OST album!

One last bit, I also loved Manager Jihyang ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ He is so handsome and patient with Whojoon. He protected him from JJ, Inhyung, the CEO. I didn’t know if Whojoon went back to Shooting Star after paying for CEO’s loans, or did he put up his own one man agency and Jihyang is the CEO/President though that’s what I imagined.

Rating: 8.75/10 (9 minus 0.25 for JJ Inhyung)

Sweet and Sour (2021)

Profile:
Movie: Sweet & Sour (์ƒˆ์ฝค๋‹ฌ์ฝค)
Release Date: June 4, 2021
Runtime: 102 min.
Distributor: Netflix

Plot
This movie depicts the struggles of couples in a long distance relationship.

Main Cast
Chae Soo Bin – Jung Da Eun
Jang Ki Yong – Jang Hyeok
Krystal Jung – Han Bo Yeong

Review:
I think a lot of people didn’t like this movie because of the last 10 mins when they showed the twist. I actually liked it. Even though I was expecting a happy ending for the couple, I was also fine with how the movie ended. Sweet and Sour indeed. I thought it was very realistic.

The couple started sweet (as in any relationship) but when Hyeok was transferred to Seoul, trouble started. I think both of them tried their best to maintain their relationship but they were both tired, overworked, pressured and lonely. They started blaming and resenting each other rather than talk about it or make time when they’re together. Da Eun was lonely and met a guy who was nice and would do anything for her. Hyeok met a girl who was beside him and understand his work. I also felt like Da Eun was the first who started to cheat. When she accused Hyeok of having an affair with Bo Yeong, that’s when Hyeok did it.

In the airport scene, I thought Da Eun would not push through with the trip and run after Hyeok, but it didn’t happen. But, I think it wasn’t a bad choice. What I didn’t like is how Hyeok, after realizing he loves Da Eun after all and came running to the airport, found out she was already with another guy, and instead of fighting for her, he went back to Bo Yeong and tried to propose to her as a second choice. But Bo Yeong is also leaving and he ends up alone. Oh well, he made his choice and must suffer with the consequences.

I don’t know if months later, will Da Eun still be with Lee Jang Hyeok? Will Hyeok date another girl? Or will they both end up with each other again? We will never know.

Review:
What a wonderful story! I’ve watched a few weekend dramas before and this is one of those that didn’t have a lot of makjang storylines! It was just about a family where each member has their own struggles in life, they fight, they misunderstand, they hurt each other. But in the end, they are family and they continue to understand and love each other.

I love the siblings – Junseon, Gahee, Nahee and Dahee! Gyujin and Jaesook too! If i had to choose:

Dahee and Jaesook is my favorite couple. Not only do the actors look alike, they just have this sweet vibe and they match perfectly. I love Nahee and Gyujin but they keep fighting like kids, sometimes I wonder how they manage to stay together. Or maybe it’s really just opposite attract.

Jaesook is the best boyfriend. He supports Dahee 100%, he is very sweet, understanding and romantic. He sings for her!! Brings her food. Meets her after work. Hangs out with her friends. His only flaw is that he is a little bit clingy (well, I think some girls like clingy guys).

Gahee is my favorite sibling. She looks so good in everything she wears. She is a cool mom, she stands up for herself and she is smart. She is caring and sensitive too. No wonder Hyosin fell in love with her despite the age gap, her divorce status and having a child.

Choyeon/Yeongsuk is my favorite ahjumma/market owner. She is smart and tough because of her upbringing. She defends the people who are down, she helps older people. Her flaw is being too nice that she takes care of other people even when they have betrayed her. She is simple and average looking but because of her personality, two guys fell in love with here in the drama, and she eventually dates a much younger and handsome guy! Not bad Choyeon!

Dahee is the best daughter in law, the best daughter, the best sister. She is the sweetest of them all. She may look like a pushover but once she sets her mind to it, she is stubborn. Maybe because she’s the youngest so she gets babied a lot but she knows when it’s time to remind the people that she can make her own decisions. She is nice to everyone, that’s why she can even tame the strictest and scariest mother in law (yes, that’s Yoonjung!)

Jihoon is the sweetest grandchild. He was hurt when his dad kept ignoring him. I felt so bad whenever he gets stood up by his dad. I’m glad he was able to meet and be friends with Hyosin. He needed a stand up adult to mentor him or else I’m sure he would have grown up to be a bad child. Kudos to Gahee for raising a young and mature son. Even at a young age, he is sensitive to his mom’s feelings and when dad wanted to get back together with Gahee, he said no and chose to be happy with his mom. Plus, he also encouraged Hyosin and Gahee.

Scripting Your Destiny (2021)

Drama: Scripting Your Destiny (๋‹น์‹ ์˜ ์šด๋ช…์„ ์“ฐ๊ณ  ์žˆ์Šต๋‹ˆ๋‹ค)

Episodes: 10
Release Date: March 26, 2021
Runtime: Friday 16:00
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea

Plot
A diety of destiny falls in love with a human.

Main Cast
Ki Do Hoon – Shin Ha Yoon
Jeon So Nee – Go Chae Kyung
Park Sang Nam – Myung
Kim Woo Seok – Jung Bareum
Kal So Won – Sam Shin
So Hee Jung – Mi Soon

Review:
This is a short web drama (10 eps at 25mins each) so the story is fast paced. We don’t get the full setup of the characters or the god of diety rules but enough to understand the story. The plot is interesting, actually I feel like the material is good enough for a full fledged drama. However, because the story is so short, there is not much time for the viewers to really think of the main theme of the story or how it really translated in the execution of the story. I honestly wasn’t sure how I feel about the destiny written by god should be followed versus this is your life, you make your own choices (aka free will).

I mean, I love Hayoon and Chae Kyung. Somehow they’re destined to be with each other, that’s why they keep meeting so many times. But who wrote it so as Chae Kyung will be destined to be with Hayoon (was it Myung who was in-charge in writing Chae Kyung’s life)? But why would you do that knowing full well that Hayoon is a god and you can’t pair a god with a human because as soon as the god feels human emotions, he disappears? It’s just so cruel, not just to Hayoon but also to Chae Kyung who will have to suffer that same fate and most likely stay forever alone in her lifetime.

The ending wasn’t satisfying. *Spoilers ahead*

I thought it could have ended at ep 9 and I would be happy. Because that’s what we were made to understand. That as soon as Hayoon feels emotions, he will disappear, and dieties are only given 3 chances then they disappear forever. If that’s the case, what the heck happened in episode 10??? Hayoon is back with no memory of Chae Kyung, he is now Myung, leading the newbie dieties. He ends up meeting her again (Chae Kyung wished for it) it was weird, like we’re back to square 1. Are they going to repeat the cycle forever? See how awful that is? Hayoon even said I may not remember you but I hope she never forgets him! So selfish!!!

They also sometimes bend the rules of diety elimination to suit the story. There was one diety who disappeared as soon as he defended a human but it took some time for Hayoon to disappear. He even kissed Chaekyung, they hugged etc and he was able to say goodbye to her. Plus, why does Hayoon get to be back on earth as a diety while Myung disappears because he altered the will of life? And Sam shin went to school to meet with the cutie student, why is she still on earth?

Lastly, why do they have to make Chaekyung wear ugly curly hair?? It doesn’t even impact the story or her character other than make her look different from high school.

Rating: 8/10 (8.5 upto episode 9 minus 0.5 for the terrible ending)
